Multiple-Ring-Core FM-EDF for Weakly-Coupled MDM Amplification With Low Differential Modal Gain

Recently weakly-coupled mode-division multiplexing (MDM) transmission systems and networks based on ultralow-modal-crosstalk few-mode fiber (FMF) have attracted much interest, for which optical amplification technologies with low modal crosstalk two-dimension mode-wavelength gain flattening are highly desired. In this paper, we propose the first time a design method Erbium-doped (FM-EDF) multi-ring-core (MRC) structures of both index Erbium doping, has high compatibility MRC-FMF differential (DMG) simple pump injection requirement. By sharing boundaries ring areas also helps to reduce complexity preform fabrication. We show by simulation that at 1550-nm signal wavelength, 6-mode MRC-EDF can achieve minimum DMG 0.35-dB only LP 11 light 10-mode 0.60-dB xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">01 xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">03 lights injection. Besides, tolerance variation parameters induced fabrication is analyzed. The proposed FM-EDF beneficial practical applications MDM networks.
